Eye nuts are nothing but fasteners with a looped head designed to receive a hook, rope, cable, and chain. Eye nuts are designed for vertical lifting and are often used to lift heavy equipment vertically. It is not recommended for angular lifting. They have mainly used an attachment to equipment for transportation that could not be moved by hand. Eye nuts are rated explicitly for different applications and are oval or round. Eye nuts without load-rated design are used for tie-downs and guiding wires. They are not rated for lifting applications.
Types of Eye Nuts
The eye nuts come in several shapes, such as
Eye Nuts featuring standard internal threading and a looped head.
Eye Nuts come in larger & thicker sizes for more heavy-duty looped head and bell. It is meant to tackle higher dissimilar load sizes.
Eye Nuts come in 7/8 "-9 and 1"-8 sizes featuring a smaller bell and sizable internal diameter length.
Materials
Let's find the suitable material for making eye nuts that you need! Not sure what material you need? Eye nuts differ from one another in terms of material and finish. The superior quality eye nuts are available in 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, self-colored carbon steel, zinc-plated steel, hot-dipped galvanized steel, C1045 Carbon steel. Aluminum & copper-base alloys are lighter than steel, and they are not strong as well. Numerous grades of steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel are used to make such fastener materials. The stainless steel will not need anti-corrosion coatings, but it cannot be hardened to the same degree as carbon steel. Anyway, it is suitable for specialized applications. The black oxide coating is also used in its making but it won't make any dimensional change in the eye nuts.
The eye nut you need is based on the nature of the operation or the purpose for which you need it. Some of the specifications can be like such as:
maximum load capacity: It is the maximum load that an eye nut can handle
Bell diameter: it is the measurement that refers to the part of the eye nut that contains the tap.
Threaded length: Although most eye nuts are threaded and you can choose the length size based on your need
Threaded size: Thread sizes for eye nuts are measured in English units such as inches (in) or metric units such as millimeters (mm). Measurements for inch-based eye nuts include 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/17, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1, 1 1/8, 1 1/4, 1 3/8, 1 1/2, 1 3/4, 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/2, and 2 3/4 inches.
Inside diameter or width: It is defined as the bail diameter for round eye nuts and the bail width for oval eye nuts. Designations for metric eye nuts include M6 to M54. As a rule, the numbers that follow the letter "M" indicate the number of millimeters in diameter. For example, an M6 eye nut is 6 mm in diameter.
Eye section: The round or oval area of the eye nut
Weigh: The maximum weight the eye nut can resist
